FAQs

What is CYD?

CYD, or Community Youth Development, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide the tools to empower youth as leaders in service to their community.

What grade do you have to be in to participate?

We work with middle and high school students. We have different programs for different ages, but we have something for students from sixth through twelfth grade.

What areas do you serve?

We serve all of Sarasota County. If a student lives outside of Sarasota County but attends a school in Sarasota County, he or she is eligible to participate.

What skills does CYD help teens develop?

So many! But a few important skills include leadership, communication, organizational skills, confidence, and teambuilding.

What do you get out of CYD?

New friends, new skills and new experiences. CYD also helps you makes connections, can be a great resume-builder, and help you with scholarships, internships, and jobs. In many of our programs, you can also earn community service hours.

How do you get involved?

There are a lot of ways to get involved with CYD! You can always check our calendar for upcoming events, you can sign up for an SRQVolunteen service event, you can register to attend the SRQVolunteen training session in the fall, spring or summer, and you can apply for the STAR Leadership Training program.

For more information on how to get involved in any of these activities, please contact CYD at (941) 922-5126 or e-mail us at [email protected]. And be sure to sign up for our monthly newsletter listing everything we have coming up!
