What is CYD?

CYD is an organization that provides positive activities and events for teens in Sarasota County. Youth serve as equal partners in all decisions made by CYD - that ensures that events are fun and organized so that teens will enjoy them!

What are your hours of operation?

The CYD office is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am - 5 pm. Events are scheduled primarily on weekends - Friday and Saturday nights usually, but there are exceptions.....

What does it cost to get into CYD events?

Most of our events are FREE! We want every teen to be able to attend regardless of their ability to pay. Certain special events (like concerts) charge a minimal amount ($3-5). If you would like to attend an event, but can't afford it, contact the CYD staff. We can make it work!

Things Parents want to know...

Are these events safe?

Very! There is adult supervision at all events - people who are trained to make sure that kids have fun in a safe and substance-free environment. At the larger events, off-duty law enforcement officers help to keep the event positive at all times.

How can my child get involved?

Well, there are a number of ways..... First, they can attend an event - just be sure they have a photo ID (yearbook, license, school ID or CYD ID). Be sure to sign up on for the E-Newsletter on this site to get monthly updates on what is going on! Secondly, they can volunteer to plan events they think are fun! Meetings are held each month around the county - contact CYD staff at 922-5126 or use the "contact us" form for more information!

For Teens

Is it Fun?

Absolutely! Because teens are involved in planning the event, they make sure it will be what teens want to attend. 90%of youth who attend our events say they would come back - and bring a friend!

What skills has CYD help you develop?

We asked teens this - here is what they said: - Leadership - How to express my ideas in front of people and to be open minded. - People Skills! - CYD has helped me develop leadership skills, organizational skills, and has helped me become more responsible.

What is the most beneficial thing you have gotten from your experiences in CYD?

Again, we asked the teens..... - The confidence to lead a group and have my opinion heard. - Friends, leadership skills, and more self-esteem. - Leadership skills! - College scholarships.
