CYD Announces Award winners at 13th annual Celebration!


Scholarships were awarded to:

• Shawnna Dygert, a senior at Booker HS, received the Shannon Staub “Excellence in Leadership” Scholarship. Shawnna was recognized for her leadership at Booker HS and in various community organizations. As a leader in CYD, she was an active participant in fundraisers, training, recruitment of youth to participate in leadership training, and planned several positive drug-free events for her peers.

• Lara Funk, a senior at Riverview HS, received the Karen Bogues Community Service Scholarship in recognition of her dedication to community service. Lara was a founder of the Youth Engaged in Service, or YES! Sarasota County, a group of youth and adults who are working to engage teens in community service.

• Lauren Gwinn, a senior at Cardinal Mooney HS, received the Evie Anderson Memorial Civic Engagement Scholarship presented by Ann Kaplan, President of the Council of Neighborhood Associations or CONA.

• Amber Suleskey, a senior at Riverview HS received the Melissa Scolaro Youth- Adult Partnership Award. She was nominated for her work as a member of the Board of Directors of Girls Incorporated.

• Claire Alexander, a staff member at Sarasota County Health & Human Services, received The Jack F. Greer Youth-Adult Partnership Award for her work with Lauren Gwynn, her youth partner on the Human Services Advisory Council.
